Our summer courses in Oslo are offered especially for those who wish to use the summer holiday period to study the Norwegian language in Norway. The courses can also be used to improve your current level in Norwegian, review your Norwegian language knowledge in an intensive "summer" way, or simply maintain contact with the Norwegian language between courses.

About the Norwegian summer course

Norwegian summer intensive courses are dynamic and active and intended to help participants become more effective when communicating in Norwegian language. The summer course uses a flexible approach in which the instructor can vary their teaching methods based on the group's needs. Although we emphasise a pleasant "holiday" atmosphere, the Norwegian summer course is intense, which significantly accelerates the language-learning progress. The coursework focuses on comprehension of written and spoken Norwegian and improving Norwegian pronunciation.

Course levels

The course is offered at five levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

  • Basic (people without knowledge of the Norwegian language)
  • Beginner (participants at CEFR level A1 or who have previously studied Norwegian and know the basics of the language)
  • Lower intermediate (participants at levels CEFR A2)
  • Intermediate (participants at levels CEFR A2 - B1)
  • Advanced (participants at CEFR levels B2 - C1)

Placement test

Participants are asked to provide the school with information regarding their current level of Norwegian in the comments section when signing up for the course. Those who have taken Norwegian before will be required to take a placement test. The placement test is obligatory for all participants except new beginners and will be send to each student by email, after the participant has completed his or hers registration. Participants can also complete the placement test at the school where it takes place on each Monday of each week at 08:00 for those taking the morning session, and 16:00 for those taking the evening session. If that option is preferred, we recommend visiting the school during the week prior to your first week of the summer course in order to take the test.
